Around 1:00 PM today I was on my way out to feed the birds when I spotted a Townsend's Solitaire approximately 15 to 20 feet above me setting in our bare Walnut tree. I proceeded to get my binoculars to verify again what I had just seen. The bird flew so I frantically looked in the direction it flew. Suddenly I spotted it below Cedar Trees on top of the barn roof. Rain water always gathers and puddles on the flat part of the barn roof so the bird stopped to get a drink. It turned towards me and appeared to be resting a moment when Rebecca came out of the house with her binoculars. I asked Rebecca to look at the bird on the barn roof at which point the Townsend's Solitaire flew towards both of us passing over the roof of our house and into a field of Cedar Trees. Again full of excitement we both frantically tried to relocate the bird however it was no where to be found. With that being said I have no photos but here is what was seen in details.... An all grey, white eye ring, very small billed bird with white outer tail feathers were seen and identified. In reviewing all my available resources this bird appeared to be a "drab winged adult" as seen and pictured on page 400 of National Audubon Society The SIBLEY Guide to Birds 2000 Copyright edition.
