Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Davidson Co., TN
Thursday, 2013 May 2
7-9:10am
partly cloudy, warming up

I spent perhaps my best morning of the spring at Radnor Lake today
and got six first of the year bird species to boot. However, my first
find near the west parking lot was birder Jan Shaw, who was literally
just back from a trip to Scotland, and we birded together up to the dam.
The dam area this Thursday morning was a warbler magnet with many
species singing and seen including CHESTNUT-SIDED, BLACKPOLL, PALM,
PROTHONOTARY, N. PARULA, YELLOW, BLACK-THROATED GREEN and of course
YELLOW-RUMPED. Also seen there were SCARLET and SUMMER TANAGERs and a
SPOTTED SANDPIPER, while a BALTIMORE ORIOLE was heard in the distance.
After spending a half hour or more there, I walked to long bridge. At
the deck along the lake trail I had CAPE MAY and BAY BREASTED WARBLERs.
Long Bridge produced my first CANADA WARBLER, seen and then singing.
In all I had 17 warbler species in 2 hours without even attempting to
walk up onto Ganier Ridge, where I likely would have gotten more.
I totalled 50 species for the morning.

Birds of interest included:
Osprey
Spotted Sandpiper
Acadian Flycatcher
Yellow-throated Vireo
Swainson's Thrush
Wood Thrush

WARBLERS:
Louisiana Waterthrush
Prothonotary
Tennessee
Orange-crowned
Nashville
Kentucky
Common Yellowthroat
Cape May
N. Parula
Bay-breasted
Yellow
Chestnut-sided
Blackpoll
Palm
Yellow-rumped
Black-throated Green
Canada

Summer Tanager
Scarlet Tanager
Baltimore Oriole
