Over two years ago Congress mandated and funded pre-suppression (prescribed fire and thinning), urban interface, homeowner education, etc. to reduce fuels and wildland fires. These national fire programs are ongoing and effective. The Healthy Forests Initiative is a return to logging. Timber companies do not 'thin' the forest. There is no market for small diameter trees.
