Mississippi River
Shelby Co. TN

A quick trip to the Pits at Ensley didn't show much turn over except for
continuing good numbers of Stilt (214) and White-rumped Sandpipers (112) plus
14
Wilson's Phalarope. Still, 17 species of Wind Birds. A quick turn around
Western Kingbird nesting areas revealed 10 birds including 1 hybrid but no
Scissor-tails.

On the Big River, I had a steady stream of terns moving and feeding north.
Black Terns - 17, Least -3, Forster's - 9, Common -1, Caspian - 4.

I checked on Jay Walko's Avocet at the south end of DeWitt Spain Airport and
found it (a male) in a territory dispute with a male Black-necked Stilt. In
these pot holes which have suffered through the recent drought years and now
are holding water again, I found 14 species of shorebirds.
Good Birding !!!

What is this feathered thing that lifts my heart to the heavens.
