A few reports still trickle in, but it looks like most of the eBird contributions for April 2011 have come in. Tennessee eBirders submitted a total of 905 checklists for the month, encompassing 245 species and 91,153 individual birds. Some of the more notable reports include Mute Swan, Tundra Swan, White-faced Ibis, Rough- legged Hawk, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, White-winged Dove, Short-eared Owl, Bewick's Wren, 36 species of wood warblers, and Bachman's Sparrow. Most of these sightings have also been posted here on TN- Birds. For comparison, April 2010 is represented by 813 checklists covering 207 species, and April 2009 by 555 checklists with 220 species. The bouncing around of that species total has a lot to do with how much coverage comes in from west Tennessee in any given month. The most numerous species was Red-winged Blackbird at 4,546 individuals; the most ubiquitous species was Northern Cardinal, reported on 509 checklists (56% of all checklists submitted). It is also interesting to note the species that were reported on TN- Birds but are not represented in the eBird data. For April 2011 this list (in order of appearance) is Sandhill Crane, Red-necked Grebe, Ross's Goose, Sanderling, Baird's Sandpiper, Hudsonian Gowit, King Rail, Ruff, Connecticut Warbler, and Purple Gallinule. The majority of these species were reported from the Mississippi River border counties, an area that is always rich in birds but not so rich in eBird contributors. http://ebird.org/ Bill Pulliam Hohenwald TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
