Bob Ripley, regional manager for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency's
21 counties in East Tennessee, retired today after 31+ years of state
service. He was stationed at the agency's office near Morristown.

His 22 years as a region manager is the longest of any regional manager
since TWRA was created 30 years ago.

He is a native of Greene County and a 1972 graduated from the University of
Tennessee-Knoxville

He joined TWRA in 1972 as a wildlife officer in Rhea County. In 1976 he
moved to Region IV as hunter education and boating coordinator.

He took the region manager's job in 1982 when regional manager Harold Hurst
move to West Tennessee to become a regional manager there.

Bob's son, Nathan Ripley, is the TWRA wildlife officer in Rutherford
County. Bob and his wife Phyllis live on a farm in East Tennessee.

Bob Nichols has been named as the new Region IV manager.

Nichols, who had served as the Region IV Assistant Regional Manager since
1997, joined the TWRA in 1972 as a wildlife biologist. He is a graduate of
UT-Knoxville where he earned a B.S. degree in forestry and an M.S. degree
in wildlife science.

He wrote today to say: "The hardest thing I have faced so far is parting
company with the friends and associates I have come to know over my career
with TWRA."

Bob Ripley will be missed by everyone who has an interest in the wildlife
resources of East Tennessee.

He will be missed by all the wildlife, great and small, which he helped
manage for so many years.

Let's go birding.....
