Subject:  [TN-Bird] TN-Bird leads world Science Catagory with FreeLists !!

Tennessee Ornithological Society’s
TN-Bird list leads the world
Science Catagory with FreeLists
We are very proud to tell our subscribers that
our list is ranked at the top of FreeLists Science
Category which includes lists from many nations.

For more than 15 years FreeLists has strived to be the
premier mailing list host on the Internet. Millions
of people from across the globe use FreeLists
every day to connect with friends, customers,
co-workers, and more.

Their focus on high-quality topics and groups means
TN-Bird is part of a special community.  FreeLists
hosts thousands of the world's best mailing lists.

We are also proud that our neighbors BIRDKY is
ranked second. Bristol-Birds in Northeast Tennessee
is fifth !

This lofty distinction has been earned by all of
our TN-Bird subscribers who have, for years, kept
our list free from unbecoming behavior and assured
that the quality of our posts have a style and usefulness
maintained by self discipline.  Our TN-Bird list originally
was hosted by the National Audubon Society 20 years
ago on their servers in New York City.  It was a model
for its time and Audubon eventually found FreeLists
for us many years ago.  At that time we designed and
created the VA-Bird list, helped KY-Bird and became the
model for birding lists across the South and along the
Atlantic.  Our very first birding list was named Valley Birds.

Eventually we created the listserv for the Hawk Migration
Association of North America and Hurricane Net which
tracked and reported storm-driven birds  when storms
made landfall.  We also created the Tennessee Ornithological
Society’s first website originally hosted by the University
of Virginia and the University of Tennessee.

FreeLists' ListRank is a means of determining the
relative quality of a mailing list. It is by no means
an endorsement of a list, and FreeLists by no means
guarantees that the lists with high ListRanks are
better than those with low ListRanks and vice-versa.
It's mostly a convenient way of ordering lists in search
results and category listings with the added benefit of
putting mailing lists that are obviously useless
(abandoned, never used, etc.) at the bottom of those results.
Several criteria are considered when building a list's ListRank,

such as the percentage of our 731 subscribers who participate in

discussions, the age of the list, etc.
Here is a brief look at a few of the lists which rank
