Red Phalarope and Avocet still present this morning around 7:30. Stopped briefly on my way to Nashville. Thanks, Mike. Phalarope Date: Tue, Sep 9, 2014 10:50 PM Rankin Bottoms, Cocke county, 9/9/14, 5pm-8pm, by canoe Lake elev: 983 ft. We had just enough time for a brief look and a blurry photo of a swimming phalarope before it flew off. It appeared to have the thicker bill and bulkier chest of Red Phalarope, vs. Red-necked Phalarope (see the comparison photo in The Shorebird Guide, O'Brien et al., p. 222). Maybe it will show up tomorrow for a better look.
