This is pretty typical for American Goldfinches throughout their range at this time of year. I see it here most years, and we used to see it in eastern Colorado as well. It seems like it may be a little bit later than average this year, however.

I've seen and have been told about several large flocks of goldfinches in the last week. I had probably 20 in one flock at my house, eating dandelion seed heads. I saw another flock of 20-30 along the road near my house too. A friend told me this weekend he had probably 40 in his yard doing the same.Stanley York Jr Palmyra/Montgomery Co April 29, 2013 Sent from my iPhone On Apr 29, 2013, at 7:46 PM, Clayton Ferrell <wodu1440@xxxxxxx> wrote:TN NWR - Duck River Unit Humphreys County 04/29/13Two male blue grosbeaks fighting over unseen female in wheat/vetch field in pool 10 at the end of Refuge Lane. Scattered dickcissels were also seen which were the first for me this year. Several us have been commenting on what would appear to be unusually large numbers of goldfinch. Observing twenty plus is not unusual and I have had a few reports of a hundred plus birds. Anyone else seeing this?Clayton Ferrell
