I will be leading a Tennessee Aquarium member's trip to the Ruby
Mountains in eastern Nevada in search of the Himalayan Snowcock August 2
- 7, 2011.
These large Asian game birds were introduced to Nevada's Ruby Mountains
in the 1960's for hunters to enjoy. It has become well established but
is an alpine species that is mostly found above 10,000 feet and is
difficult to see because of its cryptic plumage and isolated, rugged
habitat. The Ruby Mountains in eastern Nevada are known for their stark
and beauty. Several other species of birds will be of interest in the
mountain range and near by habitats including Dusky Grouse, Lewis's
Woodpecker and Black Rosy-finch.

The trip will begin in Salt Lake City, Utah where we will sample some of
the best birding in the western US. We will check out several locations
along the shores of the Great Salt Lake including Antelope Island
(Chukar) and the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge (one of my personal
favorites) before we drive the three hours west to the Ruby Mountains.
We will have a chance to bird many different habitats in both Utah and
Nevada and I am always willing to look for any specific species (not
just birds!) trip members may need or especially want to see. So send
me a list!

This trip will be inexpensive and a lot of fun; the birding should be
great, the food good, and the scenery fantastic!

If you would like a flyer and more information about the trip you can
reach me at kac@xxxxxxxxxx, or 423-875-4070. We only have a few more
spaces available so let me know if you are interested as soon you can.

Thanks,
