March 28, 2003 Ensley Bottoms Shelby Co. TN Today as I scanned through the thinning flock of Greater and Lesser Scaup at TVA Lake, I came across a sleeping Surf Scoter. I got a couple of shots of the bird through the scope. The birds were a little skittish as an adult Bald Eagle was standing on a spit of ash out in the middle of the lake. This is probably the mate of the other sitting on the nearby nest. As I was scanning I saw the eagle gambol across the spit and pounce. It came out of the water with a small Softshell Turtle, which it began to tear apart and gobble down. I took a few shots of the bird as it enjoyed the turtle tidbit. Good Birding!!! Jeff R.
