One of my blue bird boxes is directly in my line of sight as I sit in my favorite spot on our rear deck, so I've been observing the occupying couple closely. All was normal until yesterday, when an interloper male blue bird showed up and commenced to skirmish with the resident male. The female pays no attention to these two fools, but continues as best she can to feed the nestlings. I'm thinking that the chicks are missing out on some vital nutrition, however, as these two males do very little feeding and continue their battles. I've seen adults carrying out white excrement sacs from the box for about a week now, so I feel that graduation is almost here. It's a little late in the breeding cycle for a blue bird *menage a' troix*, no? Is it possible that the offspring have three parents? John Skaggs Powell, Knox Co.
