It makes sense that popular votes would favor extremely familiar birds, perhaps explaining the plethora of Mockingbirds and Cardinals!
I believe changes to state birds, songs, trees, etc. are not all that unusual around the nation in recent decades. Whatever was suggested would need to be passed by the Legislature.
Has being the Official State Game Bird been helpful to the cause of Bobwhite conservation in any way?
