Standifer Gap Marsh, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN May 5, 2006 We have the following nests so far this season: Least Bittern: 5 eggs, 5 eggs, 2 eggs, 2 nests that are unfinished and possibly dummy or abandoned Canada Goose, March 25 to May 5, 8 nests: eggs/ fledged/ infertile: 6/?/?, 4/3/1, 0, 4/4/0, 6/5/3, 0, 5/3/2, 22/0 Virginia Rail: 1 nest with 2 eggs Red-winged Blackbird: 29 nests, 53 eggs, 3 apparently eaten by Water Shrew, none fledged yet (to our knowledge) Orchard Oriole: 3 nests, too high to check eggs but two active adults at each nest, two pairs with red male, one pair with yellow male. We have been happy to show birders around the marsh the last few weeks, but we will be out of town May 7 through 14. We would appreciate hearing anything of interest regarding the marsh during that week.
