[TN-Bird] Standifer Gap Marsh, Black-crowned Night Heron

Standifer Gap Marsh, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN 
July 17, 2005

Black-crowned Night Heron: 3 juvenile/1st summer
   2 clearly resembled juvenile plumage in Sibley's guide
   1 clearly resembled 1st summer, with dark crown and bright red eye, dark beak

Least Bittern: Last nest with one adult incubating 4 eggs, 
   Next-to-last nest with 2 large young at the nest but well able to climb 
around
   All other (20) nests now empty and deserted.

Great Egret: 1, present for past 3 weeks

Virginia Rail: Adult incubating 7 eggs (7th egg laid June 28)

Common Yellowthroat: 2 singing
