I stopped by on my way back from Chattanooga Sunday afternoon, between 1800
and 2000. I was hoping for rails and the like, and did hear both the
VIRGINAand the SORA, although I did not get a visual on either. I was
surprised by a life-bird, a LEAST BITTERN flew up by the gravel road, and
then obliged me with a reed clinging view. Other observations: Wood duck
(19) Mallard (5) adults, 3 young Canada Goose 20+ with young Great-blue
heronKilldeer Blue-gray gnatcatcher Cedar waxwings orchard oriole (3 singing
males) I also saw two "short-eared" rabbits with only a light area around
thetail, not white at all. Maybe swamp rabbits? I did add another life
bird, below the Chickamauga Dam, on the railroad tressel. You guessed it, a
beautiful adult PERIGENE FALCON plucking away on a fresh pigeon. I also saw
two great egrets a little south of there along Hixon Pike. A good day for
birding! Ben Britton Morristown, TN
