Signs of spring were evident in our yard this weekend here at the top of
Snows Hill. The Purple Finches are gathering for their northward
migration; from just a few pairs we had at least 25 on Saturday.
Red-winged Blackbirds came in and reminded us that God gave them one of
the most beautiful songs in all of birddom. The Field Sparrows added
their notes to the symphony. A lone Eastern Meadowlark added beauty
both in color and sound. Flocks of Robins weren't singing but they must
walk to some inner music. Our winter resident male Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker is resplendent in his courting colors and adds some percussion
to the beat. All the other winter birds are still with us including the
White-crowned and Fox Sparrows. Just another page or two off the
calendar and the warblers will be here. What a wonderful world we have
to enjoy.
