Yesterday while walking the dog and doing a little birding along
Springfield's greenway I was struck by the mix of spring and winter
migrants present at the same time in (or near) the same place. While
parulas, common yellowthroats and prairie warblers were singing I had
a swamp sparrow, several white-throated sparrows and a rusty
blackbird. The savannah sparrows that were present in the fields
there at least as recently as this past Sunday appear to have left.
