East of Trenton, Gibson County
Spent some time yesterday afternoon out east of Trenton in Gibson County. The
first stop was Gibson County Lake where I had the following species:

Cackling Goose    3
Canada Goose    14
Gadwall    325
Mallard    400
Northern Shoveler    2
Green-winged Teal    150
Canvasback    1
Ring-necked Duck    250
Lesser Scaup    40
Ruddy Duck    100
Pied-billed Grebe    8
Horned Grebe    1
Great Blue Heron    1
Bald Eagle    2 adults
American Coot    30
Killdeer    5
Least Sandpiper    1
Wilson's Snipe    2
Belted Kingfisher    1
Red-headed Woodpecker    1
American Crow    10
Savannah Sparrow    25

I then visited nearby Lake Hayes where there were no waterfowl of any kind. My
next stop was on Mary Queen Road where I had a big flock of birds feeding
beside
the road which was covered with snow. I turned the truck off and sat there for
about 30 minutes watching the flock come and go and had the following birds in
the immediate area:

Mourning Dove    2
Red-bellied Woodpecker    2
Northern Flicker (Yellow-shafted)    4
Blue Jay    12
American Crow    3
Carolina Chickadee    5
Tufted Titmouse    2
Carolina Wren    1
Eastern Bluebird    4
Northern Mockingbird    1
Brown Thrasher    1
Yellow-rumped Warbler    4
SPOTTED TOWHEE    1
Eastern Towhee    3
Field Sparrow    2
Fox Sparrow    2
White-throated Sparrow    25
Dark-eyed Junco    40
Northern Cardinal    20
American Goldfinch    2

The Spotted Towhee was a male which I only saw briefly. There were 3 Eastern
Towhees in the flock (2 males and a female) and they were feeding besdie the
road. The Spotted Towhee never came out and fed on the roadsie with the others
but I got good looks at it as it was scratching around in the leaves in typical
towhee fashion in the brush a few feet off the road. I came back by the area a
couple of hours later and the flock was not in the same area but I did not have
the time to try to see if I could relocate them.

Good birding,
