My last sighting of the roseate spoonbill at Dutch Bottoms (upper Douglas Lake,
Cocke county TN) was at 7:00 PM on 10/22, in a standing row of 50 great egrets.
On 10/23, same time, there were 20 fewer egrets and no spoonbill.
According to Bill Whan, editor of the Ohio Cardinal, 10/22 is the latest
reported sighting
"north of the southern tier of states". Downstream birders - take a close
look at any egret posse; you could be the new record holder.
Thanks to James Brooks for the original observation at Dutch Bottoms, and the
Whan communication.
