To the Tennessee Birding and Library Communities: This coming weekend, October 10-12, the Southern Festival of Books (SFB) returns to Nashville (for good, I understand). The Arts and Entertainment section of yesterday's (Nashville) Tennessean described it well: "Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Southern Festival of Books brings more than 250 authors from all over the United States to Nashville's War Memorial Plaza this week. From prize-winning journalists and historians to renowned novelists and writers of young adult fiction, Humanities Tennessee's annual Celebration of the Word has something for everyone, including plenty of panels and readings featuring local and regional authors." Of special interest to birders will be Richard Modlin discussing his book Chasing Wings: Birding Exploits and Encounters, which will take place at 3:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, in the Capitol Library. But don't stop there; the SFB offers a staggering array of sessions on many subjects, beginning at noon on Friday and continuing through Sunday afternoon. And it's all free--although contributions are warmly welcomed.
