I birded in Hamilton, Meigs, and Bradley counties onThursday, June 9. Then on
June 10, I birded portions of Hamilton County andRhea County. Highlights
follow:June 9: (37species)· Bobwhite quail – 3 heard from the gazebo
atHiwassee Wildlife Refuge in Meigs Co.· American kestrel – 3 seen on
Tasso Lane inBradley Co. west of the airport· Blue grosbeak – on Tasso
Lane in Bradley Co.west of the airport· Yellow-billed cuckoo – one heard
at home inBirchwood (Hamilton Co.) and 1 at the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park
inBirchwood (Meigs Co.)· Summer tanager – at home in Birchwood·
Yellow-breasted chat – several heard from BlytheFerry Lane (Meigs Co.) on the
HWR near the CRMP June 10: (35species)· Great egret – Yuchi Refuge (Rhea
Co.)· Prothonotary warbler – 1 seen and at least 2others heard at Yuchi
Refuge· Prairie warbler – at least 2 heard at YuchiRefuge·
Yellow-breasted chat – 3 seen and several heardat Yuchi Refuge· Cooper’s
hawk – near Highway 302 at BreedentonFerry Rd. (Rhea Co.)· Summer
tanager – at home in BirchwoodI sawdickcissels on Tasso Lane near the airport
several times last spring andsummer, but I haven’t found one in 3 trips this
year. I cannot seem to masterthe common yellowthroat song and probably missed
them at Yuchi Refuge June 10.I’ve seen them there on previous trips this
