On my way to west TN this morning, I had a Merlin in Jackson (Madison Co) flying over the Columns shopping center on Vann Rd (exit 80B), just north of I-40. It appeared to have been chasing some starlings. In western Dyer Co, along the westernmost levees along the Mississippi River, I had a bunch of loggerhead shrikes and a dark phase Harlan's Hawk (which was cooperative and well photographed in flight). Hundreds of horned larks worked the freshly plowed ag fields across Dyer Co. Good Birding, Scott Somershoe State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O.
