Soddy Mountain Hawk Lookout
Hamilton Co., TN - - on Walden's Ridge Above Soddy Daisy, TN
Elevation 1385'

Due to a 100% rain out I now have time to file this abbreviated report. The
Broad-wing totals are about average this year so far. This week-end and early
next week should be peak time for Broad-winged Hawk migration. A weather
system has moved in today with locally heavy rain. The forecast for Saturday
and Sunday is also calling for more rain. The weather channel is showing maps
of rain covering the entire eastern United States. If the weather breaks
Monday and it is partly cloudy as predicted then Monday should be a really good
flight day!

Our season started on September 4th. and is still running. We have had 3 very
good flight days and one exceptionally good day counting Broad-wings. On 9-14
we had 389, on 9-19 we had 340, on 9-20 we had 1358 and yesterday 9-21 we had
466. Surprisingly, last Saturday, when everything appeared perfect for a good
flight, we had zero Broad-wings all day!

Year to date totals:
Osprey 8
Bald Eagle 10 (6 Adult - 4 Immature)
Northern Harrier 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk 21
Cooper's Hawk 6
Broad-winged Hawk 2631
Red-tailed Hawk 2
American Kestrel 5
Peregrine Falcon 3
Unidentified Falcon 1
Unidentified Raptor 1

Totals: 2689

If anyone needs directions, just ask me.
