Wow, that is incredible! My experience mirrors yours, I've never seen numbers 
remotely approaching that away from the counties along the MS.

Subject: [TN-Bird] Snow geese, Haywood County


Large flock of snow geese in north part of Haywood County TN, estimated at
80,000 - 100,000 birds.  With them are several hundred White-fronted Geese
(600?).  On private ag lands on Hwy 54 between Brownsville and the Forked
Deer River.  Not rare of course, but in my experience, the numbers are
really high  for east of the Mississippi River and a county not adjacent
to the river.
