Knox County 10-18-14 I went to Seven Islands this afternoon to confirm today's snow bunting sighting. There had been three white birds seen. We saw one or perhaps two of them. One that was photographed by Paula Schneeberger (I will post when available) was in our opinion a partially leucistic field sparrow. It had a long tail like a field, was moving with other field sparrows, even involved in chases among them. Its overall shape, appearance, behavior and choice of habitat, moving from grassy ground into the weeds, small trees and even tall cedars, seems to rule out snow bunting. Other birders are returning tomorrow to try to find all the birds in case there truly is a snow bunting among them.
