19 Feb 2010 Fort Campbell Montgomery Cty Yesterday (18 Feb) I went back to check on Smith's longspurs with Dawn York, a co-worker, and 2 were seen in the same area. These birds were very approachable allowing us within 15-20 feet at one point. Permission has been granted for a guided trip out to see these birds for anyone who would like to try. Hunting is not occuring in that area and training is not scheduled at this time (although it could change). For anyone who would like to try for the birds please meet at the Hunting and Fishing unit of Fort Campbell (directions below) off Lafayette rd at 7:00am tomorrow morning (Sat). Do not bring any photographic equipment (scopes OK) or weapons of any kind. Make sure you have a picture ID and car registration/current vehicle insurance papers for anyone driving. Gravel road where birds are being seen is a bit rough in spots so SUV's or trucks would be ideal. Directions to Hunting & Fishing unit from Nashville: Take I-24 west to Exit 4 (Hwy 79) and go south (left). Take 79 to Hwy 374 and turn right (west). Go to the 4rd stop light and turn right (Lafayette rd). Go to the 1st stop light and turn right. Immediately on your right is the parking lot for Hunting & Fishing. Email me if you plan on attending so I can get a head count or call my cell if you have any questions (931-206-5818). Thanks, Daniel Moss Clarksville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
