Shelby Farms
Shelby Co. TN

I made a pass through the farms on my way back to the office at 11:30 today
and saw a glint of white sitting out on the lake. Domestic geese and white
ducks frequent this lake but something said too far out in the lake and the
sleeping doesn't seem right for domestic stock.

On closer inspection the bird proved to be the proverbial "single white
goose" and following the rule you already know what species it turned out to
be. Unfortunately while taking some photos through the scope I discovered the
bird has an area torn from the lower rear portion of the right side of the
small bill. I did get photos of the bird with its head raised a couple of
times. It was sleeping in with some Ruddy Ducks and would have to wake up
occasionally and swim closer into the drifting flock. This makes 3 or 4 years
now that Ross's have returned to Shelby Farms. drop me a note and I'll
forward some photos.

Good Birding!!!
