TN 2 Mem, Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp, Shelby, US-TN Aug 24, 2012 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM Protocol: Traveling 0.5 mile(s) Comments: Went back today to see if the hoard of White waders were still around. They were, but starting to spread out. I think they have found another small pond to roost around about 500 yds away to the east on the other side of the RR tracks and tree line. Had 128 Wood Storks today and 3 Roseate Spoonbills in the mix, the smaller waders were down in amount considerably. Looks like large numbers of big waders are being reported all around West TN, Eastern Ark, and NW Miss. 6 species Wood Stork 128 Quite a few more than yesterday, 99 percent of the birds were just resting or flying around, Have they fished out the pond. Great Blue Heron 2 Great Egret 500 Still great numbers hanging out in what shallow pools of water there is. It has to be fished out by now. Snowy Egret 7 Little Blue Heron 4 Roseate Spoonbill 3 Mixed in with the 650 other large waders in this diminishing pond of water was three Spoonbill's. Two were resting on the downed tree on the west bank tree line and the third was foraging along the shoreline. Did not have my Camera or scope today used a pair of borrowed bino's. Ran into Jeff Wilson who was down there checking on these birds and The Neotropical Commorant up on the big lake at TVA.
