[TN-Bird] Sightings Report 20 Oct 2006, Ensley Bottoms area Memphis

Location:     Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp
Observation date:     10/20/06,330-345pm

Notes:      Cool day. Ponds are really drying up fast.

Number of species:     8

Great Blue Heron     1

Red-tailed Hawk     1

Mourning Dove     7

Belted Kingfisher     1

Red-bellied Woodpecker     1

Eastern Phoebe     1

European Starling     100

 

Location:     TVA PONDS

Observation date:     10/20/06, 345-400pm

Notes:      Dredging still going on. Coots are about the only thing
dominating the ponds.

Number of species:     8

 

Pied-billed Grebe     4

Great Blue Heron     3

Red-tailed Hawk     2

American Kestrel     1

American Coot     61

Eastern Bluebird     4

European Starling     50

Red-winged Blackbird     20

 

Location:     TE Maxwell Lagoons

Observation date:     10/20/06, 400-530pm

Notes:      Overall numbers are down but there's still alot of birds to look
at. Alot at a distance on far side of ponds. No Scope. Yellow legs numbers
also down Lots of water being moved around the ponds. Small ponds near
drying fields have lots of water attracting the ducks. N. Harriers hunting
on the levees between the ponds. Young redtails flying around and perching
on poles and trees. Colder weather definatly changing things up. LBJ's
Flitting around the levees. Watch your ingress/egress around the ponds they
have pumps on some of the levees.
