Danny Shelton, Jan Shaw, and Cyndi & Steve Routledge joined me today for a fine morning of birding in the Cedar Hill area, including Johnson's dairy farm and Cedar Hill Swamp. We had several (5+) Horned Larks; at least 20 Savannah Sparrows; 3 Northern Harriers together, including an adult male; between 20 & 30 Red-headed Woodpeckers (all but one at the swamp); 2 Wilson's Snipe (at the swamp); at least 2 Loggerhead Shrikes (we saw one alone and then about an hour later in the same area saw two together); and 4 Eurasian Collared Doves. Eastern Meadowlarks were seen in good numbers at several sites. Notable too was a sizable flock of Tree Swallows flying low over a large field and later seen perched on a power line.
