Just got back from SE AZ and was homesick for the local birding spots, so I decided to try Gallatin Steam Plant on a cloudy day before going in to work. While I was in Phoenix I spent an hours or so at the Gilbert Water Ranch, which makes you wonder why we can't manage better shorebird habitat in Middle Tennessee if they can do it in the desert (http://www.riparianinstitute.org/birding.cfm).
