There were nine of us that met up this evening to try for the Short-Eared Owl
on Swamp Rd in Rutherford County. On the way to the location, we stopped to
see the Barn Owl. As we were preparing to leave, the owl morphed into two!
While waiting for the Short-Eared Owl, a few of us were able to hear a Great
Horned Owl, but it was not seen. One Short-Eared Owl made a late appearance
(maybe 530ish, I didn’t look at my watch.) and was seen by seven of us. After
a short bit, we moved up farther to listen for American Woodcocks. We did hear
at least two, but unfortunately, they were a bit distant.
If anyone would like assistance looking for the Short-Eared Owl tomorrow
(Sunday, Feb 3rd), Bill and I will be happy to meet and assist. Just like we
did today, we can meet folks at the Eagleville School at 430p and then drive to
the Short-Eared Owl location. If you are interested in birding the Swamp Rd
area, you will need to do that prior to meeting up. Please send me an email by
3p on Sunday to let me know you would like to go so we can plan accordingly.
