Hello,
Six birders met up to see the Short-Eared Owl on Swamp Rd in Eagleville this
evening. Two additional birders joined us later on site. The eight of us
represented at least four counties. The weather was lovely. The Sandhill
Cranes were flying low with many flying directly over us while we were waiting
to see the owl. Northern Harriers were also numerous.
I was getting very nervous as the bird still hadn’t shown by 505p. A few
minutes later, it finally made its appearance. Whew! Seven of the eight
birders were able to view the bird. Tonight, after crossing the road, the bird
was not seen again as it did not choose the field across from us to hunt.
It was nice getting to meet new people and see folks we have met previously. I
will suggest a meet up again to see the owl within the next several weeks
depending on my availability and the weather. It will either be on a Saturday
or a Sunday. Please note I may only give a day’s notice like I did yesterday.
