I had a short visit to Laurel Hill WMA in Lawrence County on Tuesday afternoon on the way back to Nashville from Florence, AL. I saw a pair of Tree Swallows feeding above Laurel Hill Lake near the bait shop and picnic pavilion on the south end of the lake. Five Northern Juncos feeding on the edge of the trees and gravel drive in the same area. Also saw one White-throated Sparrow, a Carolina Wren, a Mourning Dove, and numerous Titmouse walking north along the gravel road. I accidentally scared up a Great Blue Heron at the head of the Galloway Branch cove where the road ends. I heard a Pileated Woodpecker back in the woods but couldn't spot him. No waterfowl to be seen.
