July 15-16, 2006
Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN

Coming up to the pits and seeing thousands of shorebirds, where last week
there were hundreds, sure is a seasonal rush for me as they provide hours of
ever enlightening viewing and study. Increases in Killdeer, Least and Pectoral
Sandpipers made up the bulk of the masses but Semipalmated and Westerns were
easy to find if you took the time. Scanning through the masses produced a
molted and mottled Sanderling, a nice addition to the season list which now
stands at 11 species. The next month should produce many additions and a
possible
rarity or two.

Now is the time to get out on the river and see breeding plumaged
Sanderling, something we don't get to see much here, but mid-July on the
Mississippi
River (also possibly the Tennessee) will produce a few hot treats.
Good Birding !!!
