Aug. 22-23-24, 2010 Ensley / NTP Shelby Co. TN Another chapter in the unique migration of Wind Birds and Habitat around Memphis. Last Saturday, the "Pits" at Ensley were almost void of birds, little water and north winds had swept the area almost clean except for a few stragglers. Saturday night, finally rain and we had a ton of birds to glean through on Sunday but little variety. The immature Buff-breasted and up close Upland made the day. I ran down to spend some free time I had to glean through the birds looking for a rarity that might be lurking and found the birds to have left on the north winds being pushed by another front. At the North Treatment Plant, I located a few new birds that had dropped in overnight. These new birds were really new, all in crisp juvenile plumage. These were; 3 - First Of Season immature Semipalmated Plovers, 2 - FOS immature Baird's and a nice long billed Western with red racing stripes. Another cold front is passing through now and should present a new set of Wind Birds, hopefully some variety and a goody or two.
