5/4/09 Shelby co. While birding with a couple of friends from TX today, I had a singing Connecticut Warbler at Meeman-Shelby. This bird was along the road going out to the boat launch, in the boggy area just before the creek you cross as you open up into the open fields. I got a good look at the bird, for only the 3rd time. I got lucky and the bird flew up to a low branch for a few seconds, but not to be seen again. It sang several times initially, and not far off the road. Great day for warblers at Meeman-Shelby, with only 22 species, but good showings from most targets. We birded the Pits this afternoon, with Jeff coming down to join us. Few shorebirds overall, but we had a couple of flyby's of the Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks. Earlier 5 had been up in the small pond at TVA Lake. About dark all 7 came into the big center pit.
