Shelby Bottoms Park Davidson County 10/12/11 As usual, I had limited time for birding today, but I did manage to get in at least one hour of quality time at Shelby Bottoms, followed by another 45 minutes or so of getting lost and then rushing back to my car to get back to Murfreesboro so I could put some exams together. Anyway, I had four Philadelphia Vireos all foraging in close proximity to each other. (I believe I've read somewhere that Phillies are generally not prone to flocking, so I thought this was kind of cool.) Also had a Red-eyed Vireo and two White-eyed Vireos. Warblers were lacking a bit (besides the ubiquitous Magnolias), but a Chestnut-sided was a nice find. And I'm always excited to get my first Swamp Sparrows of the season. I think they're the most subtly beautiful bird in Tennessee. Full eBird report is attached.
