I spotted the hawk on the right (see attached photo) at 9 AM on Thursday of
this week. It was located on the lake bank of Percy Priest Lake at the marina
beside the Nashville Shores entertainment area, and it was munching on a coot,
which can be seen directly below it. I saw the hawk on the left a couple of
years ago in my back yard on Cantrell Ave in Nashville. Are both of these birds
sharp-shinned hawks, Cooper's hawks, or one of each? In addition to the common
traits such as size, I have examined head size, leg thickness, and eye
location, but I have not been able to make a definitive ID for either bird. I
am sorry to impose on my birding friends, but I believe that accurate IDs will
result in a lifer for me. Thank you kindly in advance.
