Using information in Fred Alsop's Birds of the Smokies, we heard a
Whip-poor-will near Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area in Sevier County Friday
evening, June 9. We parked and waited at a pullout on Lyon Spring Road. The
pullout is 3/10 mile north of the gravel road that goes to Little Greenbrier
School, and 1 9/10 miles south of the intersection of Wear Valley Road (Hwy
321) & Lyon Spring Road. One Whip-poor-will started calling at 9:10 and was
continuing when we left at 9:30.
