This morning (8-27-06) we set up our nets at Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge in
SE Knox County, again. I arrived at 5am to set up nets for Eastern Screech Owls
by 5:30, so that when everyone else arrived at 6am we could check to see if we
caught any owls. At 6am our efforts were rewarded with one of the roughest
looking Screech Owls I have ever seen. The whole head was moulting and was
covered with little spikes of new feathers.

We opened up our seven songbird nets a half hour before sunrise (630am) and
closed at 1030am. We netted a total of 48 birds including the Eastern Screech
Owl.

Rubythroated Hummingbird 4 (new one day record)
Common Yellow-throat 3 (1 R=Recapture)
Field Sparrow 11 (1R)
Indigo Bunting 8
American Goldfinch 8 (1R)
Willow Flycatcher 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 2 (1R)
Blue Grosbeak 1
Carolina Wren 2 (1R)
Song Sparrow 3
House Finch 1
Northern Cardinal 2
Northern Mockingbird 1

Our next morning for banding will be two weeks from today on September 10, as
long as the weather cooperates. All are invited to stop by.
