Stan Wallace and I visited the Sequatchie Valley in Bledsoe County Sunday
hoping to find Dickcissel to add to our life-lists. No luck with Dickcissel,
but we did see 11 SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS. There were the 5 (2 adult,3 juv.)
on Ninemile Crossroads, 1 adult on Oxier Hollow Rd, and 5 adults along Upper E
Valley Rd (1 north of Oxier Hollow Rd/Melvin Crossroads, 2 seperate pairs
between Ninemile Crossroads and Worthington Cemetary Rd). We also spotted 2
EURASIAN-COLLARED DOVES (lifer for Stan) along Upper E Valley Rd between
Ninemile Crossroads and Worthington Cemetary Rd (believe there was a pond on
the west side of rd there). We heard 4 or 5 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS (lifer for me)
at a few spots along E Valley Rd as well. David Trently and 2 others were in
the area as well and they helped with the 1st definite Grasshopper Sparrow ID.
Below is a partial list.
Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher - 11
Eastern Wood Pewee - 1
Eurasian-Collared Dove - 2
Blue Grosbeak - 2
