As you heard, the Purple Martin (PUMA) roost site in downtown Nashville was inadvertently destroyed when the area was mowed on Friday, August 26th. This is actually close to the time that the PUMA would have started to leave Nashville on their migration to South America, but approximately 100,000 birds were still using the site when it was lost. I'm curious to know if the Martins have left Nashville or if they are roosting elsewhere in the downtown area. Anyone interested in joining me to look for Purple Martins this evening , please send me an email or give me a call, so we can coordinate a search. I plan to be at Oldham Street, near North 1st Street at 7:00pm this evening. Please come if you can. It will be interesting to have teams observing from several locations and at the original roost site. We might as well try to learn something from this unfortunate event.
