I birded the area south of Walker Branch State Natural Area in Hardin County
today (May 15, 2009). A map of the natural area can be found at
http://www.tennessee.gov/environment/na/natareas/walker/walker.pdf. I birded
the field surrounding Pittsburg Landing Road. Some birds seen/heard:

1. Lark sparrow- 1; heard only; this was the same area I saw two lark sparrows
mating in 2008

2. Dickcissels- abundant

3. Grasshopper sparrows- abundant

4. Blue grosbeak- common

5. Bobolink- a group of about ten

6. Northern bobwhite

Within the natural area I observed a great blue heron colony consisting of four
nest. I saw young in three of the nest.

After leaving, I took TN 64 west out of Savannah, TN. After crossing the TN
River, I took a right onto Coffee Landing Road and then the first right off of
this road to Bridgeview Estates. You will cross under the bridge which contains
many cliff swallow nests. At the end of the dirt road (solid enough for cars)
turn left. Within the field on the left I had:

1. Scissor-tailed flycatchers- three individuals- a male and female (told be
the length of their tails) were seen together; a male was seen by itself. The
pair seen near 35 degrees 13' 12.774" N -88 16' 50.154" W.

2. Dickcissels

3. Blue grosbeak

4. Northern bobwhite

5. Orchard orioles

6. Grasshopper sparrows

and others
