Friday evening on what Google calls W Road and mailboxes say Higgins Rd- NO ROAD SIGN  (left off TN HWY 64 - not US 64 from the Shelbyville prior the Wartrace Substation)...originally these were right before W Road becomes Higgins Rd. Went searching for them Sat evening but the rain dampened that hope...last evening (Sun Aug 26) went searching and immediately were rewarded with many scissortails...at least 8...maybe more. Some immature some adults. Time was between 6:30 & 7:00 p.m. These hung around the power towers...around the fences, guy wires, and power lines. Traffic can be interruptive at times (do not let the beauty of the area and "blank" road deceive you!) and an occasional dog will announce your presence as well.

A drive onto Higgins crosses over a lowater area which may yield a sandpiper or other treat (we may have had a solitary but have yet to fully verify...but it bobbed like a spotted but markings initally matched the solitary in the one book)...was present on Sat in therain only...not present Sun. Again, traffic and be ready to move quickly when car approaches!

Shrike Info: A Loggerhead Shrike has returned from its late spring post (May and early June then disappeared) near the intersection of Bugscuffle Rd & Cortner Rd. On Wire above a residence's home so be courteous and not infringe on privacy please (I know the folks and they would appreciate this thus my reluctance to even mention the spot!) A mockingbid often is there to add to the "hope" so beware!

p.S. A Blue Grosbeak and Green Heron were in the field adjacent to the Garrison Fork of the Duck River in a field on Cannon Rd...a Great Blue Heron also was on the Garrison. All of the area mentioned in this e-mail is part of a bird route Roy & I ran to school in migration in Spring (~4 Months) for years prior direction changes of travel (our precious daughter's daycare and now school!)...wonderful area to bird still!
