This afternoon on old hickory Blvd past Bells Bend, at the site of the old
sod farm, I individually counted 91 Savannah Sparrows as they flew across
the road from East to west, into the grass of the old farm. The fact that
they were moving across the road in my field of view made it easy to
actually count, rather than make a blanket estimate, but obviously actual
numbers present are higher.
Ninety-one is nowhere near a state high count for winter (which is 950,
according to Somershoe & Sloan) but it is the most I've ever seen together,
and may be a high count for Davidson county.
