A morning bird walk this past Saturday at J. Travis Price Park in Springfield sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department attracted 15 participants. Though many migrants have yet to come through the area in sizable numbers, 45 species were seen. Highlights were an Osprey circling with a group of Black Vultures, a pair of Blue-winged Teal, a Swamp Sparrow and a White-crowned Sparrow that still haven't decided to head north, and a flock of about a dozen Rough-winged Swallows which flew close by over the lake allowing good looks. Gnatcatchers were numerous and vocal.
