Driving alongside some farms in Meigs County yesterday morning and this
morning, I saw several hundred sandhill cranes (SHCR). Yesterday, I observed a
few hundred sandhill cranes on Sanders Road off Blythe Ferry Road and on nearby
Gunstocker Road. Also yesterday I noted around 50 American white pelicans
circling (kettling to migrate ?) near the Highway 58 bridge.
Today, there were still some SHCR on Sanders Road, along with a loggerhead
shrike. I didn't see any cranes on Gunstocker Road today. Going north on
Highway 58, a few SHCR were in fields along the highway and a Northern harrier
was observed. I turned east onto Highway 306 (Lower River Road). Between Ware
Lane and Sugar Creek Road, I observed many hundreds of SHCR on both sides of
Highway 306.
