A SOOTY TERN was found by Dan Jacobson at 12:30 EST above Nickajack Dam in Marion co. The bird was relocated at 2:30 was still being seen as I left it around 2:50. Take the New Hope exit off I-24 (about 12 miles north of Chattanooga) and head up river (right turn if you are coming down from the north and a left from the south) proceed to the first right turn below the dam (3 or 4 miles) over the railroad tracks, you will see the dam. Proceed to the parking lot on your right, right above the dam. The tern was among several Common Terns flying among the rockpilings and bouys. You need and scope and spend some time scanning. This bird will most likely be gone tomorrow!! It is the third state record and first since 1934!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My apologies to the local RBA people in Chattanooga, my computer is messed up and I can send this locally!!!!
